Drunk Hoverboarding: Please Don’t

Now that Christmas has passed, hoverboard sightings have become far more common. The mass opening of brand new hoverboards throughout homes in the United States has already resulted in a variety of embarrassing injuries and a whole lot of fun.

Unfortunately, some hoverboard owners are already pushing the limits for themselves and their boards by getting drunk before riding. The results are ridiculous:

While this may seem like a good time to some, you can count on videos like these to spur legislation that limits rights and takes the fun out of riding a hoverboard.

Push The Limits, Pay The Price

These days, it’s easy to forget that it wasn’t always illegal to drive while under the influence. In fact, it was common practice for gentlemen to drink heavily and drive whenever they pleased. Since most people are now aware of how dangerous driving while under the influence of alcohol is, they refrain from doing so, but many avoid driving drunk because there are strict laws prohibiting it.

Drunk biking is illegal, it doesn’t have the same harsh penalties as a drunk driving offense, but biking while under the influence can still get you into serious trouble. The hoverboard is a motorized transportation device, no matter how silly it looks.

If people continue to get drunk and ride their hoverboards, accidents are bound to happen. When they do, you can count on fear to result in new regulations to help protect the public.

Keep It Safe. Board Responsibly

Now, hoverboards and cars are very different. For one, hoverboards have a top speed of 7 miles per hour, but the question is, could a drunk hoverboarder cause serious injury or death?

Do not begin to ride around on public streets on your hoverboard while drunk. If you’re drunk enough, you could be facing a charge for public intoxication. Regardless, trying to navigate a hoverboard while intoxicated is never a good idea, let alone next to a street where cars are passing.

If you have an uncontrollable urge to ride around on your hoverboard on your own property drunk, keep in mind that you’re an accident waiting to happen and will likely hurt yourself.
